How to Run your Business on the Go

Hands up if you’ve tried to run your business + have a life!

We’ve all run our operations from the backseat of an uber or an airport kiosk at one point or another, right?!

It’s hard to get shit done when you’re on the go. Here’s how we manage our business while we’re traveling for client meetings, speaking engagements, conferences...oh, and life!

1. Download the Right Apps

When you’re working on the go, you’re typically using your phone. So make sure you have the right tools on it. Here’s what we use:

  • Obviously we have banking, instagram, gmail, uber...all the usuals

  • Dropbox for easy access to documents

  • Voxer to shoot off quick voice messages to our team

  • Expensify to scan business expense receipts

  • Planoly for scheduling social media posts

  • Spotify/Audible for music and audiobooks to recharge

  • Finery for shopping/styling

2. Carry the essentials

Start with a great bag that can carry everything. I use a Madewell tote that’s durable + has tons of space. I always bring:

  • Computer

  • Beats headphones

  • Legal pads + pens

  • Packaged snacks

  • Water bottle

  • Lip balm

  • Phone + computer charger

  • Hand sanitizer

3. Join a Co-Working Space

Co-working spaces are great because you can pop in anytime. You have a desk to spread out, a place to sit and chill, and even a spot to change outfits or film videos. Perks include free coffee, wifi, printing, conference rooms, phone booths, entrepreneur friends, and social events. A lot of spaces, like the Wing and WeWork, have nationwide locations so you can pop in when you’re in town.

4. Join a Women’s Social Club

The entrepreneurial lifestyle can get lonely at times. It’s especially hard when you’re traveling and away from family + friends. We’ve found that there’s guaranteed to be an organization of like-minded women in every city. You can join their organization and attend events when you’re in town. You’ll meet new friends who can help you grow your business + help you stay sane.

5. Hire a VA

There’s only so much you can do when you’re on the go. It’s so difficult to keep up with emails, calls, meetings, clients, marketing, and scheduling while you’re traveling. Without all of those systems in place, your business can really suffer. That’s why finding a great VA is a lifesaver! A virtual assistant can handle everything from answering emails to fielding calls to booking travel to scheduling social media. You’ll have to hire and train them properly, but then they can easily keep up with the operations of the business.
